Termination Dust – Book Review and Giveaway

Kimmie has a lot to deal with. The death of her sweet mama, an abusive step-dad, and keeping her brother safe and fed. What if her mother’s death wasn’t an accident?

I am a huge fan of suspense and mystery books, dating back to my Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys addiction as a child. I have read amazing books by such authors as Terri Blackstock, Colleen Coble, Frank Peretti and more.

So when I got the chance to read and review this amazing book from Alana Terry, I jumped at the chance!

Why Christian Fiction?

I read every single day. If I don’t read, I am probably on my death bed.

Or at least think I am.

So I have read a TON of books. Some are deep and heart-rending, some are exciting and thrill-inducing, and some are just quick, fun reads (think fluff.)

I enjoy reading books that are uplifting and God-honoring, and avoid books that glorify sin in any way.

I don’t want to fill my head with profanity, lust, and other ungodliness.

Christian Fiction sometimes gets the (mostly undeserved!) reputation of being second-rate writing. Like if you talk about Jesus, that automatically puts a mark against you. And if you are going to talk about Jesus, it must be a sermon.

Some of the best sermons have been stories about someone facing the same trials as I.

Preach the Gospel at all times.

If necessary, use words.

St. Francis of Assisi

Some of the best books I have ever read have been Christian Fiction!

And this book, Termination Dust by Alana Terry, is no exception. I devoured this book! I think I started it one evening, and didn’t stop to sleep until I was done!

About the Author

Alana is a pastor’s wife, homeschooling mom, self-diagnosed chicken lady, and Christian suspense author. Her novels have won awards from Women of Faith, Book Club Network, Grace Awards, Readers’ Favorite, and more. Alana’s passion for social justice, human rights, and religious freedom shines through her writing, and her books are known for raising tough questions without preaching. She and her family live in rural Alaska where the northern lights in the winter and midnight sun in the summer make hauling water, surviving the annual mosquito apocalypse, and cleaning goat stalls in negative forty degrees worth every second.

More from Alana

Something some of my fans may not know about me is while I grew up in the continental United States, I have made my home with my husband and children in Alaska for many years now. I have grown to love Alaska, which is probably why I was so excited to write this series about the Alaskan wilderness to share a bit of my favorite parts of Alaska with my readers.

In Alaska, we have a phrase that perfectly describes the fall season: Termination Dust.

That’s when the first snow falls on the mountains, signifying the end of summer. Fall in Alaska is beautiful. Orange on the tips of the trees lend a splash of color against the backdrop of unending green. For the first time since May, it gets dark enough to see the stars. If you brave the cold and happen to be awake at 1 am, you might even see some shooting stars.

I hope you enjoy reading about Kimmie and her autistic brother as much as I enjoyed writing their story. As with all my suspense novels, if you like determined characters, harsh landscapes, and faith under fire, get ready to dive headfirst into a gripping adventure today!

My Thoughts

Again, I am a HUGE fan of Christian Suspense and Mystery books. So I truly enjoyed this book. I loved seeing how Kimmie treated her little brother and did her best to keep him safe. I rejoiced as Kimmie learned to forgive and heal from the abuse of her past. I enjoyed learning a little more about Alaska, where my grandparents lived and ministered for over 30 years.

I always have mixed feelings about books that address abuse, especially mental and physical abuse, as I have lived through it myself. I like to see a character rise above the hard things and become a better person in spite of the trials.

I know that Jesus is the wonderful Counselor, and he can heal the deepest, darkest broken places in my heart. But abuse is not erased by saying a quick prayer, or acknowledging your forgiveness. The scars from abuse might always be present in a person’s life.

I think Alana addressed the subject very well, and I was satisfied by the ending. But if you have a history of abuse, especially from a father figure, you might want to prayerfully consider before reading this book.

But if you want a gripping, exciting, even romantic adventure, this one is definitely for you!
