There is nothing quite so fun as helping kids become entrepreneurs. Kids can be successful in their own business, if they are given the right tools! And it can be a great way to sneak in some summer learning fun!
Today is the last day of our 10 Day Series on Summer Learning Fun. I hope you have found some of these tips to be helpful in keeping little brains active and learning this summer!
If you have missed any of the days be sure to check it out here.
Helping kids become entrepreneurs
I have been so excited to share today’s tip with you! I am an accountant when I’m not being a mommy and homeschool teacher, so this tip is really close to my heart.
There is no better way to learn than by doing. Someone can tell you how to do something over and over, but until you actually do it, you probably won’t remember.
My kids have been bugging me all summer to let them have a lemonade stand. I have been reluctant, because I didn’t want to sit out in the hot sun just to look at a jug of lemonade on the table. But they finally talked me into it! So I figured if they were going to have a lemonade stand, they should learn something from the experience.
So I have created a mini e-book for kids to encourage them to be entrepreneurs. It lays out the process of being a business owner in a few easy steps that are easy enough for a kid to understand. There are lots of great business gurus out there with plenty of tips for business owners, but not very many focus on helping kids be successful in their ventures. Whether they try a lemonade stand, or dog walking, or lawn care, kids can be surprisingly successful if they put the effort into it. This workbook has colorful graphics and thoughtful questions to help them make the most of their entrepreneurial endevours. I hope you will find it helpful in your homeschool!

So have you and your kids ever tried being business owners or Kid Execs? I would love to hear about it!

July 22, 2016 at 2:31 pmHow fun, a lemonade stand. So good to let kids be creative and run things for themselves; builds confidence and creativity.

July 22, 2016 at 4:43 pmThis is great! When we were kids, we sold blueberries, also we would have neighboorhood “fairs,” you could put your hand in “eyeball goo” for a nickel entrance fee, and other fun things. But it was fun to have a few dollars to spend. This sounds like a great book!

July 22, 2016 at 6:36 pmSounds like lots of fun! I hope you enjoy the book!

July 23, 2016 at 11:40 pmI think kids running a lemonade stand is a great idea. It teaches them that they can’t just sit there and expect people to come to them. They might have to wave/hold signs. Also teaches them that there are going to be days they don’t make as much as others.

July 24, 2016 at 8:50 amI think the book is awesome and helps to inspire children to know they can do whatever they put their minds to. It’s important that my children knew that there are no boundaries they can not brake and as time went by they saw for themselves how true this was… As long as they, Themselves worked at it!

July 24, 2016 at 10:50 amMy son just recently asked me to start a lemonade stand. I thought this would be the best chance to teach him a little about money.

July 24, 2016 at 12:18 pmThis is true. If we teach them early, they learn. Most ADD kids grow up inventing things their mind is focused on or their thoughts grow into something to help others.

July 24, 2016 at 5:59 pmI don’t have any kids, but I am an aunt and I think this is an excellent and fun way to teach kids about business. I think my nephews would have fun learning how to run their own lemonade stand, especially when it comes to creating their own signs and spending the money they make! I wish I had had adults to help me learn about business and encourage me to do something like this when I was a kid. I honestly feel like the earlier, the better!

July 25, 2016 at 10:53 pmWe try to have a yard sale once a year and the family helps. We clean out the house and make a little money.

July 26, 2016 at 12:15 amMy best friend and I had a couple yard sales together last summer and my son and her two kids wanted to run a lemonade stand. We made it clear that the money earned would be divided based on who did the most work. My son (who was the youngest of the three kids – just 6 years old) rocked it. The other two would give up or get hot and go inside and he would stay out there peddling lemonade to everyone who drove up. He was asking people if they’d like a glass of nice cold lemonade before they could even get out of their car. And he’d fix it and take it to them while they shopped. 😀 Needless to say, he got the highest cut of the profits!

July 26, 2016 at 9:15 amSounds great. My oldest grandson started mowing yards last year and now he has all his regular mowing jobs this year and gets all kinds of extra mowing jobs all the time. He is a good little worker and he loves it….

July 29, 2016 at 12:58 amSo how did their lemonade stand work out? What do you think they learned from it?
Amy
July 29, 2016 at 1:56 pmThey made about $18 in 2 hours, which was split between three of them. They learned that they have to have a big enough sign so people can see it, and it’s easier to make money when mom buys the ingredients! And that it’s HOT in July! lol

August 6, 2016 at 3:28 pmYes, you should always check your local ordinances to see if you need to get a license or permit. But there are many other ways for kids to have a business and make some money… maybe dog walking or babysitting?

August 7, 2016 at 12:22 amI think it is a wonderful idea to try and get the kids into the fact that they could be a success at an early age. This is so good for the spirit.
